What is amazing is that developers are pressuring Sony for a price cut, not M$,
Entry pricing of the 360 is cheaper than the Wii.
The PS3 is currently mainly tapping the 25 to 34 years userbase according to a Nielsen study, probably in part due to its specs and attached pricing. The 360 userbase is dominanted by 12 to 17 year olds according to the study. However the most interesting userbase ages are 24 year olds and younger (in terms of userbase size, for example the Wii is dominated by 6 to 11 year olds according to the study [out of reach for PS3 tech for many years to come]). If the PS3 will be adapted to better suit younger age groups, this could bolster the PS3's potential a lot.
I think cheaper entry pricing (and slimlining the PS3 hardware) is a crucial factor here. So I kind of agree from a publisher perspective (ideally Sony would give PS3s away for free
). But realistically only when really possible from a commerical company perspective, so it should not go too much to the expensive of Sony employees (including first party performance) to achieve such things. Everything in due time!
