I think the difficulty has decreased as a result of more people going to college. As college has sort of become a requirement rather than a plus for many jobs out there, the vast majority of people end up going to college - many more than even 10 years ago. And, for better or for worse, many of those people don't give a damn about learning things. Thus SATs have probably gotten somewhat easier to keep the average where it's supposed to be. I'd just be a little surprised if it was a great bell curve...
