The N64 did it with the RAM pack, which was necessary for playing, amongst other games, Majora's Mask.

IIRC it wasn't necessary... just very useful.

Wrong. It is required for Donkey Kong and Majoras mask.

Show some tact.  Elaborate on what it was required for and backup your opinion with facts or go away.

Majora's Mask was one of the rare games where the RAM pack was required simply to run.

You know, I feel really silly right now. 

I somehow read RAM as Rumble and was struggling to remember why rumble would be required for those games.

We've all been there. I shoulder some of the blame for not calling it the Expansion Pack - I just couldn't remember the name.
