Of course they want to increase absolute sales, that's why Microsoft is not sleeping trough this gen, because they know that even when they have the absolute sales factor in the US, their attach rate in some genres or some games is something to think about, and if they increase their attach rate, that also increases the absolute sales...
Software companies do that also, they look all the figures to make that decision, attach rate counts precisely to do what it takes to increase sales...
