Another example with regard to others regarding simultaneous game releases.

According to VGChartz data the 360 has an install base advantage of about 10% here (which is IMO already a great result considering a 17 month headstart for the 360 and higher entry pricing for the PS3).

Although others data are probably the hardest to track here on VGChartz, the data suggest:

Godfather II sold better on the PS3, despite the 360 should have sold better taking into account install base.

The same goes for other recent releases like Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter IV, the Wheelman, Tom Clancy’s HAWX, Fifa 09, etc.

The only recent multi-platform game I could find which sold slightly better on the 360 as should be expected is Call of Duty: World at War.

So this trend seems to be valid worldwide.

And still the Xbox has (according to VGChartz numbers) a higher attatch ratio than the PS3. Again, this would lead me to assume that the Xbox game library is more diverse and of higher quality than the PS3 game library.

Not really more diverse, within the PS3 library there is overall probably more diversity to be found (LBP, Warhawk, Ratchet, etc) and that may actually be one of the reasons you are looking for. For example Call of Duty games seem to do relatively well on the 360 compared to other games, this may be due to many shooter fans on the console (for example Gears and Halo fans, games so overhyped they nearly served as mascots for the platform).

Another factor is of course the exclusives. Metal Gear Solid 4 sales rival Gears sales, but no PS3 exclusive so far has been able to match Halo 3. A likely candidate for that would be Gran Turismo 5, which is yet to be released.

Nearly all well sold non-Microsoft published 360 games have seen PS3 ports, however the 360 has more shovelware which will not be ported yet contribute to the overall count. They sold badly, but combined it's still a factor. I think a major factor though is that many of these early ports didn't see simultaneous releases, they were often released many months later like Oblivion (360's game of the year), BioShock (another 360 game of the year), etc. So the biggest fans of these sort of gernes are likely to have bought a 360 or bought the PC version instead.

And finally of course the headstart is a factor (1 year and 5 months for Europe). Someone who has had his console for 2 years is more likely to have bought more games than someone who had his console for 1 year (on average).

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."
