No you didn't. You saw a screen that shows a max of 12 players per screen, and you may have seen t say that a "Large" map is best for a max of 12 players, but nowhere did it say that the game is limited to 12 players.
Remember, they likely have "extra large" maps, and they also likely have that lobby with a scrollbar when/if there are more than 12 players.
