You have been mis-remembering.  Let me refresh your memory.

Sony mentions they will be doing naive 1080p gaming and HDMI.  MS says Sony is lying cause 1080p gaming is impossible this gen.  Hell, a $3.2 billion viral marketing campaign buys a LOT of negative press.  That's starting a bunch of "these fights"...about 2 years worth I'd say.
