Your problem is that Nintendo hasn't grown with their old audience. Nintendo hasn't changed: you have.
Which i'm not saying to be at all mean or vindictive or anything, that's just the truth of the matter. The you of 20 years ago that was so in love with them was a very different person. Your needs changed, their development didn't. I really feel that the new Nintendo is really just a reversion to the NES-era Nintendo: bold, experimental, pushing genres and throwing out lots of crazy ideas. People complained that the GC-era Nintendo was stale because they were, relying purely on their old fanbase and nostalgia
This answer can be applied to your case and pretty much all the other cases of all these people making these grand statements of why Nintendo is no longer for them. They abandoned you, yes, because they refused to grow with you. All the other console companies, and 3rd party publishers, have been developing for you, for your generation specifically, as a moving target, as your tastes grew, they grew to accommodate you, Nintendo ignored that, which got them nailed with the kiddie stigma, and is now seeing this feeling of mass abandonment.
