Monster Hunter G is the expanded version of Monster Hunter for the Ps2.
Monster Hunter 2 was planned for the PS2 but the project was tossed for the Ps2 and continued in Monster Hunter 2 Freedom.
Monster Hunter G for the Ps2 was only released in Japan and now Monster Hunter G will be re-released on the Wii.
Content wise G is just an expansion of Monster Hunter, basically Monster Hunter complete. Monster Hunter 2 has a new area and monsters versus the original Monster Hunter. That is the difference.
Monster Hunter 2G F was also an expansion of Monster Hunter 2, and now Monter Hunter Tri is the next Monster Hunter.
Monster Hunter -> Monster Hunter 2 F -> Monster Hunter Tri
