What about PS3 sales being considerably down in comparison to PS2 sales from last generation?

X360 during its year head start was competing directly with a much cheaper well established system in the PS2 which ate into X360 sales.

X360 had production issues in its first year which adversely impacted on X360 first year sales.

"Play Station" is a more established brand name which is well recognised by consumers which helped push PS3 sales in its early years.

1. True, but I'll guess we'll be able to say that about the follow-up of the Wii as well. Doesn't really mean anything aside from the fact that they are doing worse than a previous console they launched.

2. So you are saying that a new-generation console struggling against an older generation console is actually speaking in the 360's favour? If the PS2 did eat into the sales of the 360, then that's just sad. If a Sony fanboy said that the xbox (if they didn't halt production) ate away sales of the PS3, he would be laughed at.... for ages.

3. Production issues: their own fault, can't really use that to "defend" anything.

4. Hmm, brand has always been a defensive point for sony fans, which was often immediately countered by "yeah, it shows, the PS3 isn't selling shit...they're wrecking their brand with the PS3" and now all of a sudden it's a defense why the PS3 held up so nicely in the beginning, in order to "wow" the lead that the 360 managed to build up anyway, regardless of this playstation brand?

1. It will be as valid if the Wii 2 drops to 13% market share. Its a significant drop, not even the N64 managed to drop as far as quickly.

2. The Xbox 1 wasn't a force to be reckoned with, remember the PS2 outsold the PS3 quite far into this generation and that was after it was 'superceded' by the PS3.

3. True.

4. Its a stronger brand, the only difference between the Xbox 360 and the PS3 is in brand most of the time. Its not like Sony has pulled out any brilliant moves.
