Is this true and how annoying is it? I can imagine it happening a lot when you reach the more difficult stages of the game where you have to keep driving back and forward to retry.

The most recent patch added a restart option, so you don't have to worry about that anymore

honestly that never bothered me, beacuse I would just start whatever race I was near after I lost. If you decided to keep trying the same one over and over again it would be anoying, but as pointed out they fixed that problem

It was never really a problem unless you had trouble winning a burning route or had won a lot of events already, but aside from those few cases, I agree with nordlead.
