I grew up on mario since the 80's but even then I knew the so called story was as basic as basic can be.
Mario was always about just being fun, not story.
If you play mario for story then you need to expand what you play because as much as I enjoy the games,the so called "story" in each one is mind numbingly dull.
It has not changed since the 80's when it was then aimed at 5 year olds,gameplay got more advanced so more can play but story..nah it's the same is was almost 30 years ago when I was a child.
