No, a remake is coming. FF 1-4 have been remade, it is just a matter of time before VII is remade. The only question is, whether it will come to a platform like PSP (if SE take it to DS I will kill them) or whether it gets a full remake and comes to PS3

Those old FFs are 2D games. Remaking a 3D game ought to take much more work and money. Not to say they're not going to remake it, it's still very possible. It's just that it's a lot bigger in every sense.

Oh, and back on topic. Do those games work on other regions' consoles as well? I know retail copies of PS1 games still have region codes but do Store games, and if they do, do they work?

Yes they do. You can go to any store on any console and buy whatever PS1 game you want, and it will work.
