I think Sony made a comment about how they dont wanna buy games for there platform because that would be bribing. Seriously I think thats the dumbest comment ever.

It's just another BS Sony PR blunder.  Sony bought their fair share of exclusives when the original Playstation launched, and look what happened -- it worked!  Their sales skyrocketed and they dominated the industry for 10 years.

@HappySquirrel, I love my N64, but Nintendo did mishandle third party support, and it wasn't because they were trailing in sales.  The N64's launch was absolutely massive, and they just about caught up to the PSX.  I'm not saying buying up third parties would have been a good solution (nor would it ever happen, Nintendo's playbook is too bottom-line-centric), but they sure as hell made it easy for Sony.

I think Nintendo could have secured more key third party titles (either as exclusives or as multiplatform games), and that would have improved the outcome, but what I was saying is that would have been difficult on a large scale.

Companies like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo can easily buy a few games because (for them) the $5, $10, or $50 Million price tag on the game really isn't that much money and all of these companies have (directly or indirectly) done this. The problem is that most consumers are not satisfied with simply having a Resident Evil, Rogue Squadren or Killer 7 game they want access to as many third party games as they can get; the problem is you simply can't afford to secure the majority of third party games through paying companies.
