The only differences between the PS2 and PS2 Slim are aesthetic while the DS and DSi have some pretty major differences so comparing the two don't make sense.

don't a few games for the PS2 require a harddrive or something, and it is only supported on the non-slim moddel. (I really don't have a clue as I only had a few games)

Anyways, the best two comparisons are the GB/GBC, and the PSP/PSP2000/PSP3000/...
