Its a failed strategy because frankly many wii owners are in a league of their own. There may be some who bought the wii who might be PS2 for the first time, but that won't eat into wii sales, that'll eat into X360 and possibly PS3 sales.
I definitely might pick up another PS2 though since my PS3 doesn't have BC. Insurance for 10 years down the road.
And the people who claim wii is more powerful than a PS2... good god no. They are almost exactly the same. Library wise the wii has a couple more years to go for that. Even then for a gamer like me, I doubt wii will ever have the kind of library I could consider better than PS2.
