i love how people think the dsi is a minor upgrade. Someone I talked to recently also said that the highest selling console was the gameboy because he lumped them all together. Why do you all think it is the same thing? The dsi is a whole new console.
It will have exclusive games apart from the ds, different features, and more.
Will this be tracked as a different system? I think it should.
The psp2000/3000 are true upgrades, not separate consoles, and that is why they had a minor sales boost and then returned to normal sales again.

The difference here is that the psp discontinued previous versions whereas the dsi will be sold concurrently with the dslite. The question is whether or not the dsi can assume the role of the dslite in the way the psp2000 did for the psp.

I think that's a huge difference.

So the DSi is starting the eigth hardware generation of handhelds?  Good luck convincing anyone else of that, as it is quite a ridiculous notion.

It really comes off as if you're saying this as some sort of pre-emptive prediction that the DSi will see a sustained boost, not a PSP-2000/3000-esque hiccup - thus, it should be considered a totally different console.

So was the DSPhat and DSLite initially.  Then the market dictated that the Phat should be phased out.  I expect the DSLite to hang around longer than the Phat did due to the GBA slot.
