Wow... it's not often that I have threads that make me burst into laughter like this one. I think it will be a miracle if the PS3 hits 30 million by mid-November, let alone 40 or even 50 million.
But for the topic at hand, no, it won't. Microsoft has already taken too many of the HD gamers and still has enough continuing momentum for Sony to break 100 million. One of the things that I've said before was that Sony needs a price cut to keep relevance, yet they can't afford to do so. Unless a price cut comes fast, I do think they'll be locking themselves into 3rd place, with about 45-50 million sold lifetime. A $50 price cut this year might get them to 60 million lifetime. It will take a $100 price cut this year, AND another one ($50) in 2010 to have any chance of hitting 80 million and taking second place from MS.
