It would look pretty good to Sony fans... until the news came out that Sony was on the verge of bankruptcy, and the PS4 was cancelled due to lack of cash.
I don't see the point of speculating over this. The PS3 isn't priced at $400 because of bad luck or some conspiracy; it's priced at $400 because Sony screwed up on the hardware design and the thing still costs them an absurd amount of money to manufacture. Microsoft also screwed up on their hardware design, of course. (RRoD.) What would the total install bases look like if the 360 had never had any reliability issues?
