Um, no they didn't.  At least try to make it believable, people.

 

According to gaf, it was probably done as an internal experiment, to figure out the inner workings of the system.  Considering how similar the GC is to the Wii, it wouldn't have been that hard.

I'm not ruling this out as being real.
