The clothing loss is part of the sequel/upgrade process, of course! Why buy the next DoA, SC, etc. if the character's are wearing more clothing, and not less?
In other words... if the demographics buying the games wanted the character's to be different looking... why did they purchase the game in the first place again? Why would the game developer/publisher change the formula again? They like to gamble?
I think its safe to argue that JRPGs do not depend on scantily-clad female characters to sell copies, but that's not necessarily true in other genres, where the one of the only major differences between competing products is the look of the characters.
However, if you have a popular JRPG series will a lot of barely dressed Amazonian warrior ladies (or whatever)... how smart would it be to try and rewrite the IP with Amazonian warrior ladies wearing baggy sweatshirts and baggy pants? Why not just start a new IP that doesn't depend on said premise, rather than change (and potentially upset the userbase of) the old one?
Better yet, how about putting some money into resolving the ridiculous repression in our society that causes these outrageous desires to see what are, in reality, completely non-sexual infant-feeding devices? Maybe stop some children from getting autism, ADD, ADHD, and assorted auto-immune disorders, from the lack of defensive mechanisms present in breastmilk, but not in formula?
Attack the source of the problem, not the symptoms.
