While I'm lucky and don't have Mike's problem (my son is 17) I agree it is a problem for the majority of Wii owners (including most of my Wii owning friends).
Wii's are generally in the living room for everyone to play. HD system's more commonly found in bedrooms or basements for the boys to play. Making playing a M game a breeze on HD systems but on Wii (a family system) many people are in Mike's position and won't be able to play it until the kids goto bed.
It's also a lot harder for many guys to justify the M game purchase to their wives.... Whereas getting a game she will also play is an easy sell.
Not saying M games can't sell. Just it'll be more spread out, as guys 'sneak' it into the budget and day.
