Because his entire character role in ToS consisted of being an in-game encyclopedia of past world events, berating Lloyd for not paying attention in classes, and agreeing with/getting scolded by Raine.
Starting with new characters or retconning the old ones were the best options but sadly they managed to screw up the new ones.
