Not exactly extra ram tends to help when it allows you to store files that need quick access there instead of on the hard drive. Modern computers will use hard drive space to act as ram if they do not have sufficient ram to run all the programs currently running installing more ram allows you to store it all in ram and it can be accessed more quickly. The ram in the psp works a little differently though there is obviously no hard drive but what is there is the UMD drive. The extra ram will allow developers to read files ahead of time off the UMD into ram where they can be more quickly accessed and as such quicker load times by helping reduce the bottleneck of reading the UMD by doing it as you play instead of hitting spots where it needs to load for a longtime. Like Naz said though old games won't be taking advantage of this because they were not programmed for it and not all new games will be programmed to look for it either though you have to keep in mind now that game makers for the psp have to write a game to work on both the old and the new psp. Some will take advantage of it others won't its certainly a nice feature but its not nearly that good as to even speed up the old games. And if you don't believe me and think I'm a Nin fanboy take it from Sony's mouth themselves on this subject.
