Nintendo - SMBB in HD o_O; - View Post

Again (as in the other thread): Nintendo could release a fully-backwards compatible, Wii HD anytime they liked. It would internally render to higher resolution buffers, use upscaling, extra AA (etc) - and would look exactly like this.

It would be better than an upscaler, as it would render individual polygons in HD - meaning less flickers & jaggies, better texture filtering - and various other tricks. It could then simulate an upscaler, by upscaling the entire frame buffer to a larger one and applying various AA techniques to it.

Its a very, very obvious upgrade path, is technically (almost) trivial - and would be an easy cashcow for them.

...

The question is: would they bother, or would they turn it into more of a DSi type solution - where the caps of the CPU/GPU/RAM are actually better? (as well as doing all this?)

Regardless, there is zero need for anything like this for at least 1-2 years. Be basically a 'Wii premium' - and at least $100 more expensive (maybe more).
