vlad, you always bring up the shock combo, rockets, or flak to add strategic depth. I know those aren't the only two weapons in the game. Also, you bring up the fact that each person can have more than 2 weapons. This means that there is less thinking involved because each character can have a weapon for each situation and it is as easy as scrolling the mouse wheel or pressing the right number to counter your attack. Instead of having to think about it before choosing which weapon to carry. Rockets in Halo 3 have goods and bads. Bads is that reload is awfully slow, there are only 2 shots before reload, and 4 ammo on pickup, they are also rare on the map. They are also easy to avoid from mid range and on. The goods are the damage that they do. The idea is to know that your opponent has one, and get him to a position in the environment that gives you the upper hand. Probably getting the high ground on him and some distance. UT2004 gives out rockets like candy so it is a very good thing they are not a power weapon on the scale that Halo rockets are. And like mendicate said. The weapon is powerful, so you should ensure that it does not fall into enemy hands. |
The whole weapon balance is based on the fact that all weapons (cept bio and assault) have the same opporunity to kill you in mid-range. Some are btter at longer some are better in closer, but in mid-range they are all created equal (hoenstly, mid-range is where most of the fights take place because it's so easy to close range at those speeds). Also the weapons don't work like paper-rock-scissors, so when it comes to it out in the open, you use the weapon that suits you best. There is no strategy in the dancing, just pure skill, the strategy comes in between thos long times before you actually encounter the person.
