Framerate will always be more important than resolution (except when taking screenshots), which is why those high-res videos of SSBB that were posted recently looked absolutely horrible to me.
I never understood the obsession with trying to bump up the resolution of older console games through emulation; it just doesn't make sense, since the models, textures, etc were all built with the original resolution in mind. It can make a game look even more artificial if you have simpler models and textures showing within a higher resolution. As long as you are playing on a standard definition TV, which smoothes out all the edges anyway, it's best to stick with the original, or bump it up only slightly and only if there is zero impact on the framerate.
