Blizzard: Sony, Microsoft need to change how we play games, Wii games hint?

If there's something clear this gen is this: Whatever the precise formula of success the Wii has achieved it stays with Nintendo. Third party developers haven't embraced it after 2.5 years and looking at 2009 annoucements it seems they won't, seriously, ever. The Wiimote mechanic hasn't evolved since it was introduced, and it will likely stay that way. Developers are not interested or motivated or won't risk developing new and engaging ways to exploit the device, or so it's been the case until now. The difference in hardware between the HD consoles doesn't help developers either. It would seem there are more developers these days looking to cash in the "downloadable game fever" on XBL and PSN, creating atractive bite-sized games than spending on research to create something unique for an outdated hardware which targets a very confusing mixed group of people (judging by the sales of third party software from big companies).

 

they already are focusing more on the Wii lol, the games are just not out yet since the dev cycle started way late.

After 2.5 years in the market, the excuse has played out. What's not out yet, what's the 2009 lineup? any interesting NEW franchises from 3rd party developers?  I guess "we will see" right? I hope *we* won't be disappointed. But, for example, look at Capcom go this year: SF4 (new sequel after 8 years), RE5, Bionic Commando (reinvented classic), Dark Void (new IP), all of them for PS3/X360/PC...the Wii gets a remake? Dead Rising and Moto GP? When was the last time a third party developer didn't release its big franchises on the market leading console? Don't push your brains trying to answer that one.

 

Actually The, you kinda proved dauman's point, as those games that you mentioned, that I bolded, were in development bout 2 years or so some longer...ALL before it was that the "Wii" was what the market wanted. As far as a "new" IP that is being development on the Wii is EASPORTS Grand Slam Tennis. Not to mention the games that Mr. Khan mentioned...
