So you obviously aren't an fps fan.

You say that Quake 3 was good back in the day, which implies you played it and liked it. Then you say that Quake Live is the first DM game you ever liked. Quake Live = Quake 3 in a browser.

If you don't find UT2004 interesting you obviously are not a fan of online multiplayer FPS games. It is the only online FPS besides Halo 2 or 3 to keep my interest since Tribes.

Let me recap, you played HL2 and didn't like it and you are not interested in UT04. So you do not like the pc's best offering for single player and multiplayer fps action respectively.

Anyone else out there who has comments about the genre.

AFAIK there weren't that many multiplayer games when Quake 3 was released, and besides, online multiplayer wasn't as common as it's today; it was still a rather new thing for the masses. Oh, and of course I know that QL = Q3, why else would I even have mentioned it.

I've never played UT04 but that's simply because it doesn't seem interesting. That said, I've never considered CS to be interesting either. I'm sure they're not bad games, but they're just not interesting enough for me. Actually it's a bit of a miracle that I even like QL. I suppose the first two Quakes were more important back then... Anyway, it's not that simple. Maybe we should say that Quake has more appeal to me than UT?

HL2 was nice for the first time but nothing spectacular. It got boring after it. The story was ridiculously minimalistic, no matter what I did. Gameplay would've been entertaining if not for the game's linearity. Naturally that became a problem only after the first time I completed the game. It's pretty much that there was nothing to make me play the game again - it would have been the same as the first time, except that this time I'd know all before playing. Oh, and gravity gun is just a boring gimmick once you get used to it. By the way, I get bored rather easily.

There's one thing you're right about: I'm no FPS fan. That doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy some FPS games though. I liked Deus Ex, the game you apparently mentioned at some point. On the other hand, it can't be said to be FPS only as it's also an RPG. I also like Wolfenstein 3D and Doom (not sure if I did if I played them for the first time only now instead of years ago...). They have that good atmosphere. It would be impossible not to mention Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Enemy Territory: QUAKE Wars: I love them both. Of course there are several other FPS games I've liked but I can't think of any else I would have liked so much. Often they have flaws either in gameplay or in story.

Oh, and the best (you said they were HL2 and UT04)? That's just another opinion. You put it like it was a fact.
