Bad press doesn't make much difference to the mainstream because the vast majority of gaming press is only seen by the select few.... if it did make a difference the Wii would not have taken off, because it had bad press for it's first year, although later in that year it started getting some snippets of good press ouside of gaming journalism, but it still even now gets bad gaming press. Especially in the UK.
Time is the main factor here, so yes the PS3 did well to sell that software, but no it did not do significantly better than the X360.
