What happened to the days where the big companies woed the developers with gaming prowess rather then benjamins?

I know. Remember the time Kutaragi stole all of Nintendo's third parties by clearing Contra in one life? Shit was awesome.

LOL XD

What I mean is knowledge of the gaming world and knowing what the gaming world needs. Innovation and all that. Companies boasting their ability to better games as opposed to simply buying them away from each other. The idea of Moneyhatting is very.........Wallstreet. Its full of backstabbing and treachery, figuring out how you can screw the other one over the most.

Yeah, it's almost like the video game industry is a business or something.

Yeah, it is. And we are GAMERS who are suppose to be for the bettering of GAMES!!!! I would have small niche companies like Nippon Ichi, or Ico team who make awesome games over gaming giants like EA who spew out garbage and make more money.

Team Ico isn't really a company, and EA is losing money like crazy. And I like EA's games lately. They're fun, and they generally don't take four years or more to make.

EA has been doing better lately. I love Dead Space and think it is one of the best Horror game so far this gen. But what I dont like about them is the Madden/Sports series that never change. They have created many uninspiring games over the years, enough to be called mediocre gaming company in my eyes.

The fact that Team Ico is not a company does not change the fact that their games are of a higher caliber then most and they are a very small team.

Business Sense says that Developers should create only what they know works, then spread it thin accross all platforms.

Gamers want super high quality games that are the best they could possibly be. New Age Business=/=Gamer's needs which in turn has equalled less sales on their part, less enjoyment on ours(GTAIV). Exclusives are the only way to make a quality game (Mass Effect, MGS4, Heavy Rain, Mario, etc) because when you start throwing time and effort in all directions a game looses it's essense. Exclusives always strive for the highest point, something a MP cannot do.

What a bunch of crock. You have a far too idealistic view of the history of video game business and the aims of developers. You say gamers want high quality games and then equate high quality with exclusivity, but fail to account for the games sold most - multiplats like CoD, Guitar Hero, and Madden. Obviously THAT is what gamers want. What it seems most gamers do not want is exclsusives like LBP, KZ2, Banjo-Kazooi, and Madworld which sell like crap compared to the empires of franchises that define the video game industry. KZ2, for example, if they meet their wildest expectations and sell 5 millions copies, will be less than f-ing half of the CoD4 community. You can't seriously tell me that GG wouldn't rather that other 6 million install base instead of Sony exclusivity.
