Or he could just stick with Silver which is free.
Plus if he bought GTAIV, Gears 1 and Gears 2 new they should each have those 1 month free gold trials in them.
as for the wireless router its 802.11g so make sure your router can support it.. not quite plug in and play you will have to do some configuration
