Chris-
Ubisoft is one of the only companies smart enough to be making money on the enormous video game market. Read this headline, then read the article:
Gaming Roundup: Ubisoft's Earnings; More EA Layoffs; Trouble At THQ?

I'm including a large quote from this article:
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6188581.html
[[With the publisher's first revision coming in December and a subsequent upward assessment following in January, Ubisoft today said it expects its full-year haul to amount to €920 million (about $1.45 billion), up from previous projections of €875 million (about $1.38 billion). Operating income saw a similar boost and is now expected to amount to 14 percent of the publisher's full-year revenues, up from 13 percent. Likewise, Ubisoft raised its estimates for the quarter ended March 31 to €210 million (about $331 million), up from €165 million (about $260 million).
In a statement, Guillemot commented on the earnings revisions, saying, "As expected, 2008 is off to be a record year for the video game market and our games have performed remarkably well in this context. Assassin's Creed and our Games For Everyone brands continued their strong performance and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2 had a better than expected start." ]]
Moan as much as you want about Ubisoft, but their "Games for Everyone" and whatever else they're releasing are being snapped up while EA, THQ, et al wallow in financial turmoil. While everyone else is shutting down studios and laying off employees, they are RAISING earnings estimates.
Ironically, one of their recent "hardcore" games, Prince of Persia, saw lower than expected sales and a [one week?] fire sale at Gamestop just to move a few more units. If you're a board member at Ubi and you see Petz/Bratz/whatever crap it is they have selling like gangbusters, and your hyped, EXPENSIVE franchises hobbling along, which are YOU going to bet YOUR money on?
I'm sick of the Ubisoft bitching. They don't make good games on Wii? Fine, but they DID have two of the first million selling 3rd party games on Wii, so obviously they know something that you, and other companies don't.
Besides, isn't this complaint so last year?
