okay I did not read your opening but I'll answer anyways

Probably the SNES/Genesis era. It really brought nothing new except Sonic (and a few other smaller franchises)

This gen is awesome, the PS2 gen is best ever, PS1 gen amazing, NES gen was legendary, Atari gen started it all.
