Yea, there's not much of a point to use most of the magic you get. Sometimes they're nice if an enemy is weak against it or in an emergency, but it's better to use it for junctioning. Heck, junction blizzard to a physical attack and you have something similar to casting it yourself.

Don´t forget Meltdown. It´s pretty good spell too. VIT 0 => No defense.
nen- suer: No, Marlboro is bad only in VIII and X (but there, it can be Provoked and thus not that bad). In VII, IX and XII are piece of cakes.
