So just do the maths: this gen's winner has every interest in keeping it alive as long as possible, whichever competitor stops before, so much the worse for it, as Wii is winning with really huge absolute numbers, but with a market share smaller than PS2 last gen, so it's leaving more room to competitors. This doesn't mean that nobody should launch its next gen console too early compared to Nintendo, each one should follow its plans about this, but simply that it shouldn't retire its current console as long as it sells well.
