Back in the original Battlestar Galactica Starbuck and Boomer were both men. Things changed a little bit, didn't they? The robotic Cylons also looked like, well robotic Cylons. Now they are disguised as big breasted blondes or something. The only thing robotic about them is their acting. You are not alone in liking the update of Battlestar Galactica though.
Back off of Lost in Space. That show was brilliant (the movie is abysmal). It got much higher ratings than Star Trek. Star Trek nerds came out in droves and screamed to the high heavens about how great their show was until people listened. Even though Lost In Space was very tongue in cheek, and comical, the more serious Star Trek somehow has become more popular. William Shatner's acting is probably more funny than anything that ever happened on Lost In Space and could be a strong reason for this.
