If it sells 500k its certainly profitable and there will probably be a sequel of some sort. Most JRPGs sell less then that and many of the series are on their 5th iteration (look at Tales, that series never sells that well and yet they keep on making them).

Do I have to remind everyone that Tales is very popular in Japan?

 

 

   By never sells that well I mean it sells about 300-500k typically and they keep making more.  The only one over 1 million is the gamecube symphonia tales.  Clearly selling a few hundred thousand copies is more then enough to keep the series afloat which is exactly my point.

  Whether you want to call selling 300k (like the newest tales game) not selling that well or very popular in Japan is up to you.  Either way, sales similar to Valk Chronicles (and in the case of the most recent game below Valk Chronicles sales) has sustained tales development for a decade.
