In Noth America in their first week these games sold the following and ended up Million Sellers (or soon will be):
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles 76,535 Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition 70,880 Sonic and the Secret Rings 50,713 Shawn White Snowboarding: Road Trip 45,840 Call of Duty World at War 44,468 Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga 40,831 House of the Dead 2&3 the Return 13,910
Now, I'm not claiming that MadWorld will be a million selling game ... but even core Wii games sell over time and it is foolish to look at a single Wii games sales in one week and in one market and claim that it is not selling.

Agreed, I even found more examples (previously posted at US weekly sales for March 14)
Of all 3rd Party Wii Platinum Sellers ONLY 27% sold more than 57K first week and they all had established names or franchises:
Platinum 3rd Party Games That Had Under 57K First Week (19)
Carnival Games sold 35K US first week - 3.19 M Lego Star Wars 41K - 2.24 M Decca Sports 23K - 1.72 M Game Party 7K - 1.94M My Sims 46K - 1.42 M Rayman Raving Rabbids II 49K - 1.62 M Raving Rabbids TV Party 40K - 1.28M High School Musical Sing It 25K - 1.38M Call of Duty WaW 44K - 1M Sonic & Secret Rings - 51K 2.02M We Ski 31K - 1.33M Big Beach Sports 17K - 1.17M Cooking Mama Cook Off 19K - 1.1 M Shaun White Snowboard 46K - 1.03M Tiger Woods 09 52K - 1M Outdoor Challenge 7K - 1M Ben 10: Protector of Earth 3k - 1M Endless Ocean 18K - 1M Smarty Pants 5K - 1.23M
Platinum 3rd Party Games That Had Over 57K First Week (7) Mario & Sonic Olympic Games Guitar Hero III Guitar Hero WT Rock Band RE Umbrella Chronicles Star Wars Force Unleased Lego Indiana Jones (All music or well known names and/or franchises)
GOT IT - I don't want to have to teach this class again.

You teach a class on generalization? Cool. Show us how many games under 57K in the first week didn't go platinum now. In particular, cull all but the M rated ganes.
|
Why, what would that prove? Nobody is trying to make the claim that selling under 60K in the first week means success, but we're saying that it doesn't automatically mean failure. Successful Wii games don't have enormous starts, so you can't use this shortcut indicator anymore. (It's shortcut in that you make your conclusions before an appropriate amount of time has passed).
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
