@Pristine: But the thing is, that currently PS3 is doing exceptionally good in Japan and Wii doing exceptionally bad at the same time.

As for the pricecut, if Sony cuts the price to sell the product at even more loss, at the same time it's sacking staff, may cause some serious issues with the union.

The thing with the price cut is that I think a huge factor in the losses now is the fact that currencies (euro, dollar) have fluctuated about 40% against the yen. I base this off an article someone posted that said nintendo's profits were down 40% or something like that. That fluctuation doesn't affect Japanese sales so if they can cut the price anywhere, JP makes the most sense IMO.

The wii has been slowing down for a while in JP. It could be boosted by some great new software lik MH3 but I doubt it would ever return to it's previous levels so I won't call it's sales "exceptionally bad" more like "the new trend". I do agree that the ps3 is doing exceptionally well though but the reasons for it (software) seem somewhat steady throughout the year so it has some potential. A price cut towards the holiday season would do wonders in this region since they do seem to have significant interest in the ps3.

Well, it's no surprise they have interest in the PS3 now because of its streak in big releases. The Wii needs big releases and it should do good and not bad like it is now. But I wish Nintendo/Capcom would do a Wii Sports bundle and a MH3 bundle in Japan. A casual and core bundle would do wonders IMO. I don't really think the Wii situation is that worrying with the big games coming out for it (and some moderate games) and they can always do redesigns, price drops (not sure how inclined they'd do this, at least not now), colors/limited edition consoles like a MH Wii or something, and Motion Plus+. The Wii has so many opportunities to raise its sales.

I don't think redesigns and colors are that huge a factor with consoles. The wii was selling very well previously even with no big release. It's slowdown was gradual not immediate like the ps3 and 360 have been when they had no big releases. This is why I think the big names like MH3 would only boost hardware for a few weeks followed by a drop right back to where it was previously. I don't even think wii sports resort will boost it significantly but I could be wrong.

I really think the days of consistent 40-50K wii sales/week are over and nothing can return it to that state.
