Nintendo Why?

  • Because developers will be more adept to motion control and the general Wii market
  • It's actually untrue that blue ocean audiences are fickle and just like the iPod people will be drawn back to the Nintendo name
  • Nintendo will be 5 years ahead of the competition in the planning of the next console (if the others go for a Wii-like experience)
  • Nintendo have A LOT of cash to burn for R&D which they are most likely using right now to ensure they're one step ahead of the competition
  • Nintendo will have the strategy further refined after this generation
  • Nintendo will have the biggest mainstream names in gaming in the Wii Series and Mario Kart
  • Nintendo will fix all the issues people had with the Wii and when I say people I mean mass market and so they'll see the Wii 2 as a valuable investment
  • Nintendo will be free to work on titles for Wii 2 earlier and give it a strong Wii-like first year as the Wii will continue to sell and 3rd parties will become more prominent in their role of bringing system sellers to the market
  • Nintendo will know what did and didn't work this time around and will be able to improve upon it for Wii 2 (such as the channel interface, the new digital distribution service, WiiWare size restraints, Virtual Console, wrist straps and Wiimote condoms etc..)
  • Nintendo will have the advantage of third parties taking the system seriously from day one as a contender to become market leader
  • Wii 2 will be a HD capable console that will allow 3rd parties to use standard engines and make multiplatform games make sense to put on the console

Wii 2 will look like this:

Wii 2 will have a nice looking menu with games like this:

So in the end I think it'll come down to...

1. Nintendo

2. Microsoft

3. Sony

I think Nintendo will follow the 2 generation rule, Microsoft will have learnt what not to do and what to improve and Sony will once again adopt their PS1/PS2 formula but due to financial difficulties and wanting to make back the losses on PS3 will probably fall short of beating Microsoft..

P.S. yes I got bored one day...
