Well, people are lazy shit. Minor accessibility appeals can decide the fate of formats.
You would also expect a normal console owner to be mentally capable of learning how to use a classic controller, and even though they are supposed to be capable of it, they prefer the wiimote for its simplicity, and because they don't have to invest those extra minutes into getting used to it.
