Most of the extra content put on a BD is usless anyway. 80% of people in the world do not own HD Tvs that get the benefits out of PS3 Blu-Ray in 1080p. DVDs on SD Tvs are more than enough for a lot of people through out the world. |
This post is so filled with incorrect information, I hardly know where to begin.
1x DVD = 11Mbps
1xBlu-ray = 36Mbps (Blu-ray movies are played at 1.5x or 54Mbps) about 6Mbps is overhead which leaves a constant 48Mbps for video and audio.
When those SD TVs go out, those people will most likely buy an HDTV (it is making up the majority of the market now).
At 6x the amount of video detail and 10x the audio detail that DVD has, you need a HUGE storage medium.
BDs are NOT 5 to 10 times more expensive to make than DVDs either. Blu-ray discs weren't even 10x the amount of DVDs at launch! The DVD manufacturing process is 11 steps. Blu-ray's manufacturing process is 5 steps. That means LESS equipment to buy and maintain. That also means LESS leased space needed to make them. That means that Blu-rays WILL become CHEAPER to produce than DVDs IN TIME.
Some people forget how much DVDs USE TO COST. I remember because I paid for them back when they use to come in CD cases and cost $5 MORE on average than Blu-ray's cost me now.
DVD burners for computers USE to cost $3,000 and more. I bet you don't remember that either. How many times to these people have to be on the WRONG side of history before they...get it?!
