DVD drives play discs at faster speed rates than Blu-Ray players. Only advantage BD has over the DVD is 6 or 7 times more storage capcity. Most of the extra content put on a BD is usless anyway. 80% of people in the world do not own HD Tvs that get the benefits out of PS3 Blu-Ray in 1080p. DVDs on SD Tvs are more than enough for a lot of people through out the world.
If most movies and games only require a DVD disc of up to 7 to 8GB. What is the point of putting it on a 50GB BD? It would be waste IMO. BDs are around 5 to 10 times more expensive than DVDs as well. If it costs only $1 for a DVD it costs $5 to $10 for a Blu-Ray disc.
