It's not the same thing, because he really wasn't. Mario had several games that sold bucketloads, and after that they ventured into sports-games with Mario-characters. Mario doesn't get plastered on everything Nintendo does, he just gets included in their sidestory-titles (Mario Party, Mario sports/kart etc.). What Dante did and Sackboy is doing is completely different, since they're getting shoved in our faces uncontrollably after only having one game. It's ridiculous that anyone could think of this as the same situation.
