Maybe you didn't read this paragraph in my first post "When you are talking about genres, it is mainly a matter of perspective. For example: We typically refer to games that have complicated character stats and experince systems as a Role Playing Game (RPG). However, in almost every game you play you are playing the role of somebody. Therefore, Call of Duty 4 is a Role Playing Game. So is Grand Theft Auto. In Quake III, I decide that going up high is not wise as it is more likely I will be killed. I can now call Quake III a strategy game." HL2 has you firing guns in first person, therefore it is an FPS. You are having an "adventure", therefore it is an adventure game and therefore an FPA. You are playing the role of Dr. Freeman, so it is an RPG, specifically a Western RPG (WRPG). You solve physics puzzles, therefore it is a puzzle game. You use strategies such as to defeat your enemies such as "pop out and shoot", therefore it is an RTS. But wait! You can pause the game and then make your strategic decisions. Therefore, it is also a turn-based strategy (TBS). One of the points I am making is that gaming genres are loosly defined. We use them to describe a game when talking to someone else about it. You say the game emphasizes shooting, and therefore call it an FPS. I say it is more of an adventure over killing things, and therefore would call it an FPA. There really is no wrong answer. I really just kept arguing with you because I was bored |
Me too actually, work getss boring FAST.
