Anyway, on the receiver side, they're only useful at supporting HDMI 1.3 if they have the lipsync feature, and the bandwidth of course. They all basically are used as HDMI switchers, and I'm not even sure they correct the signal, which degrades with distance.

As for the sound, no receiver can receive the HD part, because it's not sent by any player (as the norm says), it's all SACD again. So they only decode the "core" part at best. The HD sound is only output by the 8 analog connections that your player must have.

I say that just so that you don't waste money on features that are currently useless, seeing as the receivers with these are very expensive.

As a rule of thumb, in home theater, it's unwise to buy sth for features you can't use right now, unless money is not a problem of course. It's even more true in the HD realm.
