So just to make sure I understand: Smaller userbase sells a relatively unknown TPS game at 1.36 over two weeks and that is comparable to a lower sales pattern of an extremely hyped, triple A FPS, over a userbase that was what, twice the size? Really?? |
Since you don't understand, I will make it simple for you.
The Playstation brand incase you've been living under a rock is not exactly known for their shooters (I know I didnt get a PS3 with ANY shooter in mind really). Many owners of the Playstation would get their shooters elsewhere ( I know I did). As such, even assuming equality in userbases. For example, 8 million 360 owners versus 8 million PS3 owners. I would guarantee if you took a survey. A higher percentage of the 360 owners were interested in shooters. This is no secret. So even at a smaller userbase the 360 'shooter' userbase is still quite possibly larger than the PS3s.
Then you factor in Holiday season, Down economy, Lack of advertising, Known publisher (Unreal Tournaments maker), First 'Good' or 'Appealing' HD game around a holiday for systems with very little games and no competition from across the aisle. Starting to make any sense right now?
The PS3 still only has around an 8 million userbase in NA. The 360 had around a 5 million userbase in NA when Gears of War released. With better advertising, better financial outlook, first very good HD graphic'd title, a more shooter based userbase, a userbase that is centered in a region that buys more software than anywhere else around the globe, etc. This isn't rocket science.
