You could always just use digital optical for sound with the PS3 and just connect the HDMI directly into your TV. That's what I do with my HDMI equipment.
HDMI cables are about $4 and TOSLink optical cables are about $3.
A lot of HDMI receivers end up 'passing through' both video and audio via HDMI and you have to connect a digital optical cable and assign it to that output anyhow. It doesn't seem like much of an inconvenience to run a single HDMI cable and a single optical cable from your PS3 to your receiver to me. You could bind the cables together so they only seem like one.
