Come on Pristine... I like you...
but you have to admit... Killzone2 had everything for it:

  • STELLAR reviews
  • Super-Hyped PS Community
  • TV Ads and Marketing
  • Awesome visuals
  • It's a f***in FPS, the biggest seller genre
  • Sony unveiled it MANY years ago to build the hype

Killzone 2 couldn't fail.
But again, the PS3 userbase is weird.

Let's pretend the game would have been 360 exclusive... Killzone2 first week would have done 1,6 million, easily.*

* Look at the Gears1 data from 2006: first week around 900,000. And at the time, the 360 WW install base = 5,5 million.

It didn't fail. It just didn't sell as many copies as you seemed to be expecting. The TV ads were few and far between and I'd reiterate, "super-hyped ps3 community" doesn't sell games. There are just a few of us using the internet not millions and millions. There are also many ps3 owners who bought one just to have all 3 consoles.

Also, the ps3 userbase is much worse compared to the competition in the region that sells the most FPS.  If ps3 had 360 userbase in the US, that'll probably mean an extra 350K copies sold on day 1. Lastly,  the demo killed it for some. Some people experienced lag and were never able to get over it. I personally didn't but I understand that some others did. We can only hope they come aboard as the word of mouth spreads.
